Welcome to Studio Katherine James.
I am an artist based in Leeds best known for my subversive chainmail technique. I create sculptures and contemporary jewellery which liberate the aesthetic language of typically gendered materials. My process is usually extremely time consuming and often highly intricate, but I apply my technique across vastly varying scales and materials. Through my work I interrogate gendered materiality, ways to disrupt the aesthetic expectations and applications of materials.
