Lace Armour
(2020. Galvanised steel wire)
This piece was originally created as a freestanding sculpture. The architectural and human scale of the piece works to both obscure and adorn the view of the people and environments it is placed in, as well as dictating how space is navigated by screening and separating. This physical effect, combined with the use of chain-mail lace which represents the combination of ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ materiality, illustrates how societies understanding and attitudes to gender create a filter through which people and events are interpreted.
